Turkey’s SMS system

What do B016 and other Turkish SMS codes mean?

Understand Turkey’s B-prefixed SMS routing codes, why they do not prove a message is safe, and how to manage unwanted texts on iPhone.

Codes such as B016 identify the operator route used for an alphanumeric SMS in Turkey. They are not the identity of the business that wrote the message. A code does not certify that a text is safe, and a missing code alone does not prove fraud.

Why different senders can share a code

BTK’s explanation concerns messages that display an alphanumeric sender heading rather than an ordinary phone number. Several businesses can use the same messaging infrastructure. Seeing the same B code on two texts therefore does not establish that the two businesses are related.

Keep the routing detail separate from the claim in the message. A text demanding urgent payment or offering a betting bonus still needs scrutiny even if it ends with a code. If it appears to come from a service you use, open the service’s known app or website independently.

Why blocking a whole code can be too broad

A rule aimed only at a routing code can affect legitimate messages delivered through the same operator. That may include notifications you actually want. A sender can also use a different route later, so yesterday’s code is not a permanent identifier.

AntiSpam’s published information describes on-device content classification. This site does not promise a feature for manually blacklisting a particular B code. Read the guide to keywords and automatic classification before choosing a filtering approach.

A practical iPhone checklist

  1. Check whether the sender repeats. If the same number keeps contacting you, consider the iPhone’s sender-blocking option.
  2. Assess the content separately. Do not treat a technical code as a trust badge. Avoid using a link in a suspicious text to verify the text itself.
  3. Review filtering options. Built-in iPhone settings and a third-party SMS filter serve different purposes. Follow the AntiSpam setup guide for your iOS version.
  4. Check for wanted messages. If an expected text is missing, look in filtering folders before assuming it was never sent.

Permissions are a separate issue

If the sender is a recognised business whose marketing you no longer want, managing your commercial message permission can address the source. Our IYS guide explains that process. An on-device filter does not withdraw an organisation’s permission to contact you.

Keep any records needed for a complaint private. Avoid posting screenshots containing your phone number, verification codes or account details. When contacting AntiSpam support, a description of the issue and your software versions is a better starting point than sharing private message content.
