This is the English version of AntiSpam's privacy policy. It is also published in Turkish at smsengellemeapp.com/privacy (Türkçe). The two versions are intended to say the same thing.
The short version
- The filter never sends your texts anywhere. Not the words, not the sender, not a summary or a scrambled copy.
- A text leaves your phone only if you report it, and it's masked first. Before anything is sent, AntiSpam masks it on your phone, hiding codes, amounts, phone, card and account numbers, email addresses and names in greetings. You see exactly what will be sent, nothing goes until you tap Done, and reports carry nothing that identifies you.
- No account, no ads, no tracking. There's nothing to sign up for, and the app contains no advertising tools.
- Everything else that leaves is about your subscription. To run your subscription, the app uses Adapty. It receives an anonymous ID, your purchase history and some basic technical details. Never your name, your texts or your card.
- Apple handles payment. We never see your card or your Apple Account details.
Who we are
AntiSpam is made and published by Okan Can Bolayır, an independent developer in Türkiye, at smsengellemeapp.com ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal data described on this page. You can reach us at iletisim@smsengellemeapp.com.
How your texts are checked
When a text arrives from someone who isn't in your Contacts, iOS hands it to AntiSpam's Message Filter extension: a small part of the app that Apple runs in a closed-off space on your iPhone. iOS gives the extension three things: the text itself, the sender's number or name, and the country of your SIM card, which it uses to pick the right language rules. It gets no photos or attachments, no contacts and no message history. Texts from people in your Contacts, and iMessages, are never passed to any filter.
Apple doesn't let the extension connect to the internet. iOS does allow a filter app to name a server that texts can be sent to for a second opinion; AntiSpam doesn't name one, so the filter has nowhere to send your texts.
The extension decides whether a text is spam with rules and a small model stored inside the app, gives iOS its answer, and keeps nothing about the message: not the text, not the sender, not even its length. No message is ever sent to OpenAI, Google or any other AI service.
What stays on your phone
- A few counters: how many texts went to Spam and how many went straight to your messages each month, the total number blocked, and when the filter last ran. They power the optional monthly summary and the setup check. Monthly counts are deleted after three months.
- Your lists: any senders you have allowed or blocked in the app.
- Your settings and subscription status, so filtering keeps working when you're offline.
None of this is sent anywhere, and AntiSpam doesn't sync it to iCloud. Your iPhone's own backups may include it, as they do for any app. Deleting AntiSpam deletes it.
What leaves your phone
Texts you report
A text leaves your phone only when you report it, and it is masked on your phone before it goes. Reporting is off until you turn it on: go to Settings > Apps > Phone > SMS/Call Reporting and choose AntiSpam (iOS lets you choose one app there). After that, when you touch and hold a text in Messages and tap Report, AntiSpam asks whether it's spam and shows you the masked text that will be sent. Nothing is sent until you tap Done.
How the text is masked, on your phone:
- digits are replaced, so codes, amounts and phone, card, account and ID numbers can't be read;
- email addresses are replaced, including ones written as "name [at] gmail [dot] com";
- a name after a greeting, as in "Dear John", is replaced;
- street addresses and number plates are replaced;
- links are cut down to their domain, which stays readable because it is often what gives a scam away.
Other words are sent as they are. If the preview shows something you'd rather keep to yourself, close it without tapping Done. And if you say that a text AntiSpam didn't block isn't spam, the text itself isn't sent at all.
A report contains:
- your answer: spam or not spam;
- the masked text;
- the sender, masked: letter sender IDs (such as a bank's name) and short codes stay as they are, and a phone number keeps only its first five digits;
- the kind of sender (phone number, short code, letter ID or email) and how many texts you selected;
- what AntiSpam's filter decided about that text and which of its rules fired;
- the app version, and your phone's region and language settings.
iOS sends the report to our website, smsengellemeapp.com, which runs on Cloudflare, and it is stored, with the hour it arrived, in a Cloudflare database located in the EU. No IP address, device ID or account is stored with it, and nothing else that identifies you. Only the developer reads reports, and only to improve the filter. They're never sold or shared, and they're deleted after 12 months.
AntiSpam also puts the sender on your own lists in the app, on your phone: Always Block if you said spam, Always Allow if you said not spam, so the next text from them is sorted right away. If you also turn on "Also block the sender", iOS blocks the number as well: it goes on your iPhone's Blocked Contacts list in Settings.
Your subscription (Adapty)
AntiSpam uses Adapty, a subscription service, to check whether you have an active free trial, subscription or lifetime purchase, and to restore purchases. When you open the app, Adapty's software in the app sends Adapty:
- a random ID created the first time you open the app (the app shows it as your Support ID on the About screen);
- Apple's identifier for vendor: a device ID that Apple gives to all of one developer's apps on your iPhone, and which other developers' apps can't see;
- your App Store purchase history for AntiSpam: what you bought and when, including trials and renewals;
- basic technical details: app version, iPhone model, iOS version, language, time zone and App Store country;
- a note each time the app is opened, and diagnostic records of how Adapty's own software is working (for example, whether the price list loaded).
The app switches off Adapty's IP address collection, so your IP address isn't stored with your profile. (Like any server, Adapty's sees the address for the moment the app is connected.)
Adapty never receives your texts, and neither Adapty nor we get your name, email address, phone number or card details. We use this data to give you what you paid for and to see anonymous sales figures, such as how many trials started in each country. We don't use it to find out who you are, and it isn't used to track you across other companies' apps or websites. Adapty handles the data under its own privacy policy.
Rule updates
The app downloads a short list of known spam links and phrases from a file on GitHub: when you open it, and in the background about once a day when iOS allows. It's a one-way download. Nothing about you or your texts is sent, although GitHub sees your IP address, as with any web request.
Apple
Apple takes your payments and gives us sales reports that don't identify you. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements), Apple may also pass us crash reports, which we use to fix bugs. They never contain your texts. What Apple itself collects is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you send. We use it to reply and, if you're reporting a wrongly filtered text, to improve the filter. Please remove codes, account numbers and anything else private before you forward a text.
What we don't do
- No account or sign-in.
- No ads, and no advertising or crash-reporting tools in the app. The only outside service built in is Adapty, described above.
- No tracking. AntiSpam never asks for permission to track you, so it can't read your device's advertising identifier.
- No access to your contacts, photos or location.
- We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers. The only messages we keep are the masked reports you choose to send, and none of them says who sent it.
This website
smsengellemeapp.com has no analytics, no ads and no tracking cookies. It is hosted by Cloudflare and loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so those two companies see your IP address when you visit, as they would on any site that uses them.
Children
AntiSpam isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children. The app never asks who you are, so we have no way of knowing a user's age.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU GDPR, the UK GDPR and Türkiye's personal data protection law (KVKK) give you rights over your personal data: to know whether we hold any and what we do with it, to get a copy, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
The only texts we hold are the masked ones people report, and a report doesn't say who sent it, so we can't look yours up by name. If you want one removed, email us roughly when you sent it and what it said, and we'll delete any that match. Reports are deleted after 12 months in any case. For your subscription record at Adapty, email us your Support ID from the app's About screen and we'll have it deleted or send you a copy. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone. It doesn't cancel a subscription: do that in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions.
We process subscription data to provide the service you signed up for, and crash reports and rule updates because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the app working and up to date. We process the reports you choose to send because we have a legitimate interest in improving the filter.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it last changed.
